After weeks of speculation, and a list of Steve Roger hopefuls that included Channing Tatum (GI Joe) and John Krasinki (The Office), Director Joe Johnston and Marvel Studios have finally chosen their leading man for The First Avenger: Captain America.
This isn't Evans' first time playing a superhero, either. This isn't even his first time playing a marvel one. He portrayed Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch in the not-so-loved Fantastic Four film series. For those of you worrying if that means Evans will have to step out of that franchise, it's too late for that; Fox has already announced a Fantastic Four reboot.
Whether or not Evans can actually act the part, I have no idea. He must've done something right to be out the other hopefuls and win over Johnston and Marvel. He'll be the commanding force in The First Avenger: Captain America, but his real acting test will come once The Avengers hits theaters. Evans will have to be the leader of the team, commanding both Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and possibly Edward Norton (Hulk), but so far, all signs point to Hulk being the villain in The Avengers. Whether or not he'll be able to upstage any of those actors is anyones guess at this point.
As for me, I was rooting for John Krasinski. Oh, well, let's see how this one goes....
The First Avenger: Captain America begins filming in June and will be released July 22nd, 2011.
